Lily's Journey - My nana

Lily's Journey

Lily was born in Apia, Samoa. However she is not yet a
New Zealand citizen. She had arrived here in New Zealand
1969 for a better life. She did have family here, she had a
brother that paid for her flight to come here. My nana came
by plane but she did not stop at any countries.

Usually, sometimes they would stop at Tonga, wait a while
then leave to their destination. She departed from Apia,
Samoa and chose to come to Auckland, New Zealand.
The people in Auckland were very friendly and warm
welcoming to my nana and her family. The difference between
Samoa and New Zealand was that there were more job
opportunities, better housing and better pay. My Nana
did not get homesickness. My nana cannot pick between
Samoa and New Zealand to be her home because both of
the countries have treated her with respect and love. One
of the obvious things that she misses from Samoa is the food.
Some of the food that they would eat is Taro, Corned beef, luau
and many more. My Nana has visited her home country a lot of
times. She is still hoping to go back again to visit some of her
family.

My Inquiry Reflection…

My Inquiry Reflection…

For inquiry, I had a partner and my partner and I done a presentation about “Global Warming". We presented it to a small group of students and we had assessors and a teacher to judge. Based on the feedback we got I would rate us a 9 out of 10. The reason why I left out the extra one was because when we were presenting we were giggling and not much eye contact was made. We would need to work on being more prepared when presenting. I think what we did well in was how we structured the presentation and how we had a clear voice while presenting.

Should The Cadbury Factory In Dunedin Shut Down???

Picture Cadbury in your mind. What did you find? Well, in 1868 a Cadbury chocolate
factory was opened up in Dunedin by Richard Hudson. Richard Hudson's first product
he made was Chocolate Chippie Biscuits which is now under Griffins. When Richard first
opened up his factory, they were manufacturing biscuits. In 1884, Richard Hudson opened
up his first chocolate cocoa manufacturing plant. In In 1930, Richard partnered with
Cadbury to create their first Dairy Milk Bar. Unfortunately the Cadbury factory in
Dunedin is shutting down and starting up in Australia.

Firstly, I believe that the factory shouldn’t move to Australia because we might taste the
change in the recipe. The chocolate could taste a bit bitter than sweet or they could add
more sugar and less cocoa which would not be nice at all. Maybe the packaging might
even change. The colour of the packet might change from purple to yellow.

This may lead to consequences. For example, workers may lose their jobs.
If they lose their jobs it will be hard for them to get money to provide for their families.
New Zealand will not be famous for Cadbury chocolates anymore. On the packets it will
now say “Made in Australia”.  I would be harder for NZ because we would be the ones
that would have to pay for the chocolate to be imported.

To conclude, I would like to say that I vehemently believe that our NZ Cadbury factory
should not  move to Australia because there are consequences for families and the recipe
could change.
