Elephants are the world's gigantic land mammals. They belong to a family named

“ The elephantidae family”, which is a family full of herbivore mammals. A group of elephants is called a “herd” which is led by a matriarch. A matriarch is the oldest elephant in the herd. Mammals are animals that have hair like humans.

The african elephant is bigger than the indian elephants. African elephants have tusks with 2 finger tips. They have grey skin with a swayed back and wrinkles. However, Indian elephants have tusks with only one finger tip. They have less wrinkles and a humped back. Male elephants are called bulls and females are called cows. Both elephants have tusks that they use to dig, fight and scrape bark off trees. They have giant ears that they flap to cool off on a hot sunny day.

Elephants eat as big as their size. They can weigh upto 13,000 pounds and are 11 feet tall. They can eat upto 400 pounds of food  a day. These majestic animals are herbivores this then means that their diet consists of bark, fruit, roots, twigs and leaves. These animals can also drink upto 13 gallons a day. The baby name for an elephants is a calf. Calfs can grow upto 2 to 3 feet tall.

Elephants have some majestic features like poor eyesight but excellent sense of smell. They have peculiar tusks which can be upto 10 feet long. Their tusks can grow all their life. Males and females go separate ways once they are fully grown into an adult.

For poachers, elephant tusks are a way to make money. Poachers are people that kill animals and hunt them even though it is against the law. But it is because their tusks are made of ivory. It is used to make statues which are very expensive in Asia. Elephants are also killed for their meat and skin but the tusks are the main reason. There are just a few million African elephants and around 100,000 Asian elephants left in the world. The amount of killing that is happening may cause extinction to elephants.  Even lions are elephant predators.

Overall, I think that elephants are amazing breathtaking animals. No one in the world needs an elephant tusk but an elephant. No tradition or fashion is worth the extinction of an entire species, and no criminal gang should be allowed to destroy any part of nature. Elephants should receive respect and justice because every living and non living thing is a creation of God
